Global Recycling Day 2025

On this day, the central role of recycling for resource and climate protection will be emphasised worldwide with numerous campaigns. In Switzerland, Recycling Day is taking place for the eighth time. This year, the motto of Recycling Day in Switzerland is ‘Muck out!’. A nationwide campaign is motivating private individuals and companies to clear out their cellars, cupboards, desk drawers and workplaces and collect recyclable materials. The aim is to discover dormant treasures and feed them into the recycling cycle.

 

Why recycling pays off - facts at a glance

 

Energy savings: Recycling saves up to:
- 95 % energy for aluminium
- 75 % energy for steel
- 40% energy for paper

CO₂ reduction:
- Recycled aluminium causes 85-95 % less CO₂
- 1 tonne of recycled steel saves 1.67 tonnes of CO₂

Conservation of resources:
- 1 tonne of used glass saves 700 kg of quartz sand & other raw materials
- 1 tonne of recycled steel replaces 1.4 tonnes of iron ore & 0.8 tonnes of coal

Recycling not only conserves valuable resources, but also reduces CO₂ emissions and saves energy. By separating and collecting recyclable materials correctly, we can all make a contribution to climate protection.
